A new way of eating

Miriam is about 5 and a half months now. Over the past few weeks, John and I have noticed Miriam imitating us when we eat. She is "chewing" and has no issues tasting the toys she holds. She has also started to reach and grab things. A few times, she has gone for a plate of food or my glasses; she is developing a sense of courisity about everything! John and I thought about waiting 'til the six month mark to start her on rice cereal. But, today we decided to jump in and see how she would take to it.

At first, she was not happy to be in the new high chair. I was nervous for how this would go...

But, her tears were short lived. There was a new teething toy to mouth and hold:

Finally the production is under way.....and she enjoyed every minute of it. I'll continue to work her on rice cereal for a few weeks.

Miriam equally enjoying her hands:

Back to the main attraction:

(sorry the above picture is blurry...her expression is so cute though!)

Too bad I missed the product placement of the Gerber Rice Cereal. She could be the new posterchild for baby food! Be on the lookout for the billboard in Times Square!

From her hands to her feet

Miriam's interest has changed from her studying her hands to her feet. I've even caught her mouthing her toes. Most of the time, she just has her legs straight in the air (as pictured). She will probably have killer abs by the time she starts walking. Most adults can't hold our legs up like that for more than 30 seconds!

John and I are getting outside three-four times a week jog/walking. Yesterday, I caught some good Miriam expressions:

Miriam's impression of Gene Simmons (Rock out, KISS!! I think we have a new member!)

Miriam is nearly sitting up on her own. Here's proof... (well, with the support of the pillow):

The weather is getting nice (finally!) so I'll be sure to take some out-and-about pictures soon. Much love from the three of us:)

Miriam's latest interest...her hands

The past few days we have caught Miriam admiring her hands. She looks at her right hand constantly as if she just got a manicure or a new ring:

Miriam can have quite the attitude :P

So, here we are...4 and a half months. Amazing how time is flying. She is about 17 lbs and 27" long. Miriam continues to delight John and me, and we are really happy spring is on the way: sunshine, flowers, and a lot to see and explore.
Last week, we went to the NY Botanical Gardens to see the Orchid Show. Such a treat- each flower was as beautiful as the next.

Miriam's Grandmother, my Mom, made a beautiful quilt. It is bright and happy: hot air balloon-print squares with bright colored pinwheels. I really love the quilt, and I hope that Miriam will appreciate all of the hard work and creativity that goes into quiltmaking!

Happy Spring :)

Miriam as a spring chicken

Yesterday, Sunday, March 18 we went to Olivia's Birthday party. It was an adventure all the way around, we brought Miriam on the Subway for the first time. She did well: fared like a real New Yorker, fell asleep as soon as she got on the train! Olivia celebrated her 4th year and we were happy to be there for the cake, fun, and craziness. It made me think of what I have coming to me....there were at least 10 kids there under the age of 5. Miriam was the youngest. Most of the others were running around and crazy! We saw some good costumes- Curious George, a train conductor, a spider, and several princesses.

Enjoy the pictures.

Ok...and in this picture, I'm trying to show how long her eyelashes are. But it looks like I'm looking up her nose! So don't look at her nose, notice her eyes! Haha.
