Every day is a new smile

A lot has happened since the last post. Here are the highlights:

Sara, Mark and Paul came for a visit. Oddly enough, it was the first real cold snap of the winter season- and it was the end of January! We had a lovely visit and it was really nice to have them up.

The cousins enjoyed their first meeting. Miriam and Paul were curious about eachother. I think (hope?) it's the start of a good friendship. Paul had a lot to share with Miriam- from how to clap, kick, share and smile. And also his favorite bird. Miriam did a lot of watching.

Paul and Miriam got along as best as they could. All they could really say to eachother was a series of "ahhs" and "ooh's". The most entertaining moment of the weekend from my perspective is when I was burping Miriam on my shoulder. Paul looked over and saw that I was patting Miriam on her back. He turned to his Mom and started patting her. It was pretty funny. Paul was very good at comforting Miriam when she cried.

Then it was better!

Later, I snapped one of the first pictures of Miriam truly smiling- usually I miss the opportunity because the camera isn't handy or the expression changes. This is a sweater that my Aunt Mary made for Miriam. It fits her really well right now. It makes my day to see this face!

It's quite amazing to notice subtle, almost indistinguishable changes in her looks and expressions.

Her personality is really starting to show up as well. She is smiling a lot- and sometimes getting her whole body in on the action: kicking legs, waving arms, broadly smiling from ear to ear. It just makes John and I so joyful to see her like this. Thankfully, she's not too much of a crier (unless she's REALLY desperate or we did her wrong!). And she settles pretty quickly and returns to her calm self. John and I have started calling her "Happy".

Bye for now!:)

Miriam at 9 weeks!

This week, Kate left to go back to school.

We were sad to see her go!

Miriam had the occasion to wear a Snoopy Snowsuit that Uncle Peter gave to her for Christmas. It keeps her toasty!

We took an adventure in the cold on another day, I caught her smiling in the carseat:

I think this one captures her personality pretty well. Until next time!

Some Funnies!

Miriam is growing! This onesie is almost too small for her, I had a hard time getting it over her head. It got stuck, and in the funniest way, I just couldn't help but crack up when I flashed back to the Gremlins or an Ewok. I hope she forgives me for laughing at her, and for taking pictures to share with you all. Hmm, could this be yearbook material when she is a senior in High School?

In this picture, I was testing which chair to use for the pictures with the baptismal gown on. I was also checking for light in the room (sorry, artist's perfection here!) So i had her positioned, she was sitting well....I stepped back...she still looked good...and then right as I took the picture she slumped over. Silly Mommy! She has a smile on her face, though. She was having as much fun as I was.

Miriam didn't care too much to be dressed in the special family Christening gown. It was the most she has ever cried in church! Maybe she's not a girly-girl, and if that's the case, it's ok! Special thank you to Brian, Kate, Susan, Julie and Doran for being present- certainly making the day more special and memorable because you were there.

Later that week, Miriam and I had the opportunity to visit the Von Kohorn's in CT. It was a really lovely visit, we stayed for 5 days; allowing John some time to study without distractions and Miriam and I some quality time with our close family friends. It also provided me with an opportunity to take some more formal pictures of Miriam in the gown, which I think came out fabulous!

And the one that turned out the best:

Christmas Pictures!

We enjoyed the Christmas and New Years holidays with John's family in New Hampshire. We had a lovely time- cousins were together, good food, a little bit of snow, and the opportunity to get out of New York City and enjoy family. Unfortunately, I didn't have the camera handy as much as I would have liked, but at least you get to see how Miriam is growing.

Miriam is 5 weeks old today!

Here are some pictures!

(sleeping soundly! Actually, Miriam has had a few nights of 6-7 hours of sleep. I wake up and dance with her when that happens!)

I think it's sweet how relaxed she is.

Helping Dad read and study!

Miriam at one month. Taken December 15!

This is the first outfit she has officially grown out of! Thankfully, the hat still fits. It's super cute with pooh ears!
The outfit was a valentine's onesie with sweetheart candies printed on it. It's very cute! Too bad it's nearly too small now!

This is an outfit that Miriam's Aunt Sara bought for her. Miriam looks great in yellow and pink!

Until next time!

It's a baby burrito!

This is called the "cris-cross" swaddle, one of the nurses taught it to me while I was in the hospital. It's great because it's somewhat hard for babies to kick themselves out of it. Plus, it's really cute! It makes them look like a burrito or like they are in a sack!

Here's how you do it. It's best if you use a 30x40 recieving blanket (or one that is rectantular, esp. as baby grows!

Lay the recieving blanket so that the rectangle is vertical.
Place the baby in the center of the blanket, with the edge of the receiving blanket right at the base of their neck.

(Miriam sort of protested about having to be the model!)

Bring the left and right corners across their body.

Fold the bottom (the slack) and bring it up to their neck.
Tuck the "wings" under either side of the baby.

There you have it!

Lilypie Next Birthday Ticker

Horray for tickers! I hope this will keep me honest in terms of how fast time will fly. That's not so good because Miriam is still so small-- I hope to enjoy her as much as possible while she is so little!

Here are some more pictures!
These pictures go from latest to most recent. Miriam has grown significantly since she came home from the hospital. This is unofficial "Mommy measurements". I think she's close to 9lbs and near 23 inches. That means growth of over 3 inches and over 1.5 lbs! She's wasting no time!!

The outfit she wore leaving the hospital no longer fits. The pants barely fit and the sweater's sleeves are 3/4 length (stylish! But the sweater itself is tight so...maybe not!)

I also included a close up of her eyes- I tried to capture how long her eyelashes are! But the picture doesn't do it justice. Oh well. At least you have an idea.

Enjoy the pictures!
